The Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS) contributed the theme and distinguished lecturer for 9th annual Faculty of Humanities and Education Distinguished Lecture series at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Kingston, Jamaica.

The Faculty Distinguished Lecture series brings the entire Faculty of Humanities and Education together to consider new concepts, disciplines, methodologies and practices being introduced in the offerings in Departments of the Faculty. The DLIS, recognizing the new text published by Dr Ruth Baker-Gardner, proposed Academic Integrity as theme for the 2024 lecture.

The Faculty welcomed Professor Sarah Eton, Professor, Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, Canada who delivered a stirring presentation entitled, “Comprehensive Academic Integrity: Ethical Decision-Making in and Beyond the Classroom”.
So what is Academic Integrity? Academic integrity is a set of values and practices that expect us to act with honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility (TEQSA 2021). It is not just a set of rules or guidelines; it’s a fundamental cornerstone of our educational community. It’s about honesty, respect, responsibility, and fairness in all aspects of learning and scholarship. Today, we’re here to delve deeper into what it means to uphold academic integrity in its entirety.
Professor Eaton offered several strategies for implementing an d inculcating academic integrity within the curricula and student profiles.
