International Recognition: IVLP Programme Recipient

Jeon Julien, Librarian in St Vincent and the Grenadines

In recognition of my work and contributions to the library field, I was selected to participate in the US Embassy’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in 2017. This prestigious program allowed me to travel, meet with other library professionals, and learn about best practices throughout the United States of America. It was an incredible opportunity that broadened my horizons and gave me new ideas to bring back to my library. The experience was a testament to the fact that libraries are global institutions, connected by a shared mission to educate, inspire, and empower communities

A Voice for the Library: Public Relations Officer

I took on the role of Public Relations Officer for the library. This position was definitely out of my comfort zone, from being labelled ‘The quietest girl in the entire School’ at Bishop’s College Kingstown. Performing this role, I soon discovered my hidden talent as a ‘voice actor’. My work in Public Relations was not just about promoting the library and archives; it is about redefining the image of a librarian and the many skills that can be utilized in the library field. My time at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, in pursuit of a Bachelors of Arts in Library and Information Studies laid the foundation to what is manifested today.
