“From Library Shelves to Cultural Threads: The Vibrant Tapestry of My Librarian Life”-Part 3

In this series, “My GLAM’orous Life”, we get a glimpse into the careers of our graduates contributing to their communities in Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs!), and the ways their degrees in Librarianship, Information Studies, Computer Science have shaped their lives and communities.

Jeon Julien, Librarian in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Storytelling with Pre-schoolers

Working in the Department of Libraries, there are ample opportunities to nurture my creative side. I jumped at the chance to collaborate with another IVLP recipient, Ms. Shatabdi Mishra of Walking Book Fair, India, founder of India’s first Walking Book Fair in Jairus.

“100 Poems Is Not Enough”

The book “100 Poems is Not Enough’ features 100 poets from mainly India and other parts of the world. In 2018, I fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming a published poet. It gave me a new platform to share my love for words and storytelling. Inspired by this success, I am currently writing two children’s books that combine my passion for documenting history and the promotion of Vincentian culture.

As coordinator of the NPL’s Online Storytime on Facebook and the Once Upon a Time radio programme that airs on Saturday mornings on NBC Radio; guest storyteller on the Once Upon a Time programme and seeing my books on the library shelves, I hope to remind all children not just my two sons that all things are possible through Christ.

The Archivist: Preserving History

With Scanning Operators of the Digitization Unit, St Vincent and the Grenadines

Sadly in 2023, we lost our dear colleague the late Cordel Matthews, Archivist, since then I have taken up the role of Archivist in the interim. In his honor, I ensured that the Digitization Unit project he spearheaded was completed as well as continue the day-to-day operations of the National Archives and Documentation Centre.

I pray for wisdom and grace to carry out my duties as I am entrusted with the care and organisation of historical documents, photographs, postcards, stamps and other artefacts. This role allows me to dive deep into the historical narratives of the nation and I relish the responsibility of keeping history alive.
