A Cultural Ambassador: Promoting Vincentian Culture

In 2012 during my final year at UWI Mona Campus, I was inspired to create the business ‘JustJeon’ making fashion accessories. That same year I was awarded ‘The Best Student Entrepreneur Booth” at the Placement and Career Exposition 2012.

Through my love for documentation and promotion of culture, I have since evolved to ‘Julien’ a souvenir gift brand that seeks to celebrate and promote Vincentian culture. I was truly honoured earlier this year when I was handpicked to feature my Vincy Sculptures, Vincy Canvas and Loofah Scrubber Collection at the recently opened Sandals, St. Vincent Gift Shop.

The Julien’s Vincy Patriotic Sticker collection,

As part of Julien’s Outreach, I recently launched the Vincy Patriotic Sticker collection, with proceeds from every sale going towards the Hurricane Beryl Efforts. These products are more than just souvenirs; they are a way to share the vibrant culture of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with the world. Through my business, I hope to help rebuild, and promote national pride and cultural awareness of the ‘Gem of the Antilles’

Reflecting on my GLAM Journey

As I look back on my career, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I have had and the people I have met along the way. Each role I have taken on has added a new dimension to my career, allowing me to grow both professionally and personally.

From the archives to public relations, to digitization, and beyond, my career has been a delightful mix of preserving the old, embracing the new, and ensuring that we never forget to have a little fun along the way.

From the shy, quiet, introvert, to the gatekeeper of the nation’s history, from writing poetry to promoting culture, my journey as a librarian has been a rich and fulfilling adventure. I know that this is just the beginning – there are still many more stories to tell, many more books to read and write, and many more moments to celebrate.
