Special Seminar on the International Federation of Library & Institutions (IFLA) Guidelines for Professional LIS Education Programmes

The Department of Library and Information Studies in collaboration with the International Federation of Library & Institutions hosted a ‘Special Seminar’ on October 9, 2024.

The theme of the seminar was ‘Strengthening the Quality of LIS Education: Implementing the IFLA Guidelines for Professional LIS Education Programmes’. The presenters were Professor Jaya Raju, Professor Christopher Cunningham and Professor Clara Chu. The presentations highlighted the origin of the IFLA Guidelines, the definition of Library & Information Science (‘LIS’) and IFLA’s action plan, which included developing an international framework for the assessment of quality standards in LIS education.

After the presentation, the presenters answered a series questions by the participants and requested the Department’s input for developing a resource guide that can be used worldwide for the implementation of the guidelines.
