INFORMATION DAY 2025

The Department of Library and Information Studies held its very first Information Day on February 13, 2025. Held in the Faculty Courtyard, several information, memory and stakeholder institutions joined the DLIS in mounting exhibitions on the work and mission of their institutions. These include:

  • The Jamaica Library Service,
  • Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ),
  • National Gallery of Jamaica,
  • UWI Mona Library, including Mona Law Library,
  • The Information Management Section of Myers, Fletchers & Gordon,
  • Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN)
  • Jamaica Heritage Trust and
  • Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA)

The event was livestreamed, with the sponsorship of DLIS partner, GO School of Information, thereby allowing our regional students, adjunct lecturers and member institutions to participate in the day’s activities.

Information Day was a resounding success, bringing together a diverse group of information professionals from various sectors. The event provided an insightful platform for knowledge exchange, discussions, and networking among participants and professionals. This gathering showcased the wide-ranging capacity of information professionals and emphasized the vital role they play in contemporary society.

The event was designed to feature information professionals in all their capacities, from librarians and archivists to data analysts and information technology specialists. The event attracted a good audience, including students, industry professionals, and academics, all eager to learn about the latest trends, technologies, and advancements in the field of information management. The event successfully raised awareness about the importance of information management and the diverse roles played by information professionals in sectors such as libraries, galleries, education, government, media, law and business.

The Department wishes to record its appreciation to Mrs. Peta-Gaye Richards, Assistant Lecturer and Departmental Coordinator for Student Life, who spearheaded the planning and organization of our 1st Information Day, as well as Ms Angella Wilson, Ms Chantelle McGowan, Ms Chevian Lewis and Ms Vanessa Clarke (Department Office) for their enthusiastic administrative coordination, participation and support as well as all participating institutions and booth presenters for sharing in the enthusiasm of our first departmental day.
